The July monthly club meeting was held on Tuesday,
July 11, 2006, at the American Red Cross building in
southeast Rochester.
Program: Harris Amps - Robert Zeller (KEØJJ)
Bob (KEØJJ) explains the benefits of surplus
equipment like the Harris Amp.
|
Bob Zeller (KEØJJ) gave an informative and enthusiastic
presentation on the Harris RF-110A Amplifier. Bob explained
that the amplifier is a military AMP that covers a frequency
range of 2 to 30Mhz in 19 band segments (no tuning is required!)
He continued to explain that though it was not officially built
to do it, the RF-110A operates just fine on 160 meters. This
in combination with the low input requirements, and full legal
output capabilities had many hams in the room taking notice,
and taking notes on this
fine amplifier.
Bob continued by explaining that like many other pieces of military
equipment, the RF-110A was built to last with many redundant
components and "overengineering."
After discussing the AMP, Bob presented the club with some
old Halicrafters informational audio, and a Halicrafters
video which showcased the Halicrafters SCR 299 which was
used for communications by the US Military in WWII.
